MJC was founded in 2002 and grew rapidly behind strong consumer demand for its unique, whimsical clothing designs. The Company was performing incredibly well, however the founder of the business realized it would need additional financial and human resources to support the accelerating growth. She also desired an experienced partner able to help her take the Matilda Jane brand to the next level. Finding the “right” partner in this situation was incredibly important. After interacting with numerous private equity firms, she ultimately selected CID Capital.
CID helped develop a detailed growth strategy, emphasizing expansion of the trunk keeper network and the development of a best in class design, sourcing, marketing and customer service infrastructure. We helped recruit multiple senior executives including a well-known consumer products executive to assume the role of CEO and a complete suite of senior management and Board positions. We also put in place a flexible capital structure with experienced lenders to support the Company’s growth, requiring minimal managerial time.
Beyond having the requisite industry experience and financial capability, the founder of Matilda Jane wanted an equity partner that would support the core aspects of the Company’s culture. We are proud of our partnership with Matilda Jane and are determined to maintain the Company’s culture in the years to come.
“We were looking for a partner, someone who could bring in their knowledge and experience to help us continue moving the Company forward. We wanted a partner who would buy into our way of doing business, who believed in the Trunk Keeper model and who could provide value in the areas that we felt we most needed it. We found that perfect partner in CID Capital.”
